The Allurion weight
loss balloon pill
If you struggle to lose the weight on diet and exercise alone and have a BMI of 27 or greater the Allurion swallowable pill may be the answer.
The Allurion weight loss balloon pill (formerly called the Elipse balloon) is a revolutionary non-invasive weight loss procedure that involves a patient swallowing a gastric pill into the stomach, where it is then inflated to roughly the size of a grapefruit and remains there for up to 4 months.
At the end of this time, the body passes the now deflated gastric balloon via natural methods. No endoscopy, no anaesthesia.
The Allurion weight loss programme also includes 4 months dietary support to help you make lasting lifestyle changes and a set of connected scales and health tracker, so you can monitor your weight loss day by day
You can expect a weight loss of 10 to 15% and then a sustained weight loss of between 72% and 93% after 12 months.

The Allurion Program is a 4-month comprehensive weight loss program built around the Allurion Balloon, a breakthrough weight-loss device.
The Allurion Program includes the Allurion Balloon for approximately 4 months. It also includes a 6-month medical and nutritional support, including one month before placement, and one month after the Balloon passes. Patients receive a “smart” connected scale and mobile app that allows them to monitor and share their progress with their healthcare team.
Simplicity: The Allurion Balloon is swallowed during a brief 20 minute visit. No surgery, endoscopy, or anesthesia is required*.
Support: Patients receive medical and nutritional support for the duration of the program. Patients also receive a connected scale that allows them to monitor their progress.
Results: The Allurion Balloon helps you kick-start your weight-loss journey by helping you feel full and by encouraging the development of new habit.
The Allurion Balloon
The Allurion Balloon is a soft balloon placed in your stomach. It is the first gastric balloon that requires no surgery, endoscopy, or anesthesia for placement or removal*. The balloon is placed during a brief 20-minute outpatient visit. After approximately 16 weeks, it empties and passes naturally*.
The patient swallows a capsule containing the deflated balloon along with a thin tube. Once the balloon is confirmed to be in your stomach via x-ray, the balloon is filled through the catheter with 550 ml of water. The placement takes place during a 20-minute outpatient visit.
Most people are able to swallow the Allurion Balloon without issue. People who do have difficulty swallowing it can be assisted by their physician, who will guide the balloon into place—still without endoscopy or anesthesia.
Following physician approval, most people are able to return to normal activity within a day or two, but some people experience nausea, abdominal cramping, and occasionally vomiting after balloon placement. In most cases, these symptoms are well-controlled with the standard medications prescribed by the physician.
After approximately 16 weeks inside the stomach, a time-activated release valve on the balloon will open, allowing it to empty and pass naturally through the gastrointestinal tract without the need for a removal procedure*.
What happens then?
By the time the balloon passes, the patient’s body will be accustomed to feeling healthy and energized with smaller portions.
*In rare cases, the Allurion Balloon may require endoscopic or surgical intervention for removal.
Following physician approval, there are no absolute dietary restrictions with the Allurion Program. However, to maximize weight loss and comfort, the nutritionist will make recommendations tailored to each patient.
